OUR CREED:

"To perpetuate the memory of our shipmates who have given their lives in the pursuit of their duties while serving their country. That their dedication, deeds and supreme sacrifice be a constant source of motivation toward greater accomplishments. Pledge loyalty and patriotism to the United States Government."

HISTORY

The UNITED STATES SUBMARINE VETERANS INC. was founded in 1965 by a group of U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II. They shared a belief in the need for an organization open to all submariners, from the very beginning of the Submarine Service through to the present and into the future - and not limited to just those who served so ably on Submarines in WW2. They also wanted to insure that those lost in the line of duty on US Submarines will never be forgotten, and to provide a way for veteran Submariners to share camaraderie and pass on the collective memory of the United States Navy Submarine force to future generations.

In Groton Connecticut, the 'Submarine Capital of the World', the above group started contacting past shipmates. Favorable responses came from Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and many more from Connecticut.

In 1963 members from CT, MA, NJ, NY and PA held several meetings in Groton, CT, Paramus, NJ and Orange, NJ to firm up plans for what was to become the U.S. SUBMARINE VETERANS INC. The final meeting was held on 12 October, 1963 in Orange, NJ and the United States Veterans was born.

It was several months later that the organization was officially chartered and incorporated in the State of Connecticut. The shipmates listed on the charter are DJ (Joe)Negri, Joe Marion, KO Walkington. The members who did the ground work in starting the organization were as follows: Dick Higman, Dusty May, Joe Webb, Mike Drucker, Bob Link, Wes Aldag, Tom Rowan, Joe Burgress, Warren Gannon, Joe Conrad and Wop Lapadozza in addition to the three named on the charter.

The Groton base started immediately and held meetings at the K of C in Groton. The attendance at these meetings was between 60-75 members. Joe Negri was elected the first state commander and Dick Higman was the first base commander. About a year later it was determined that they needed their own building and it was voted to sell raffle tickets (1000 tickets at $10 each) for a gold Cadillac to raise the money for the down payment on the present home at 40 School Street.

The base building on School Street became a reality in 1966. Due to the fact that the Groton USSVI/Base was incorporated within the state of Connecticut and they had their own building, it was voted that Groton become the National Headquarters of USSVI.

FLASH-01: Hurricane Ike call For Assistance
Submitted by: Pat Householder Natl Cdr on 9/16/2008
---------------------------------------------------------
Shipmates,

In the recent hurricane that devastated Galveston, TX, clobbered Houston and
wrecked the gulf coast communities in that area, we have shipmates who have
lost all or substantially everything.

We know of at least two members in this situation and there may be more we
have yet to hear about.  As you know, communications in that area are
difficult right now.

Your Brotherhood Fund of the Subvet Charitable Foundation will immediately
provide $ 500.00 ea in relief funds to these two shipmates as soon as we can
make contact with them, and if needed we will fund match another $ 500.00 ea
for these shipmates.

This is an appeal to YOU and ALL USSVI shipmates to contribute to helping
our gulf coast shipmates in distress.

Please send your contribution marked for "USSVCF/Disaster Relief" to

BASE COMMANDER Dallas Base
Wayne Standerfer
1303 Bow Creek Drive
Duncanville, Texas 75116

or directly to:

USSV Charitable Foundation
Attn:  Brotherhood/Disaster Relief Fund
PO Box 3870
Silverdale WA  98383

This will insure that your donation is eligible for tax deductibility to the
extent the law allows.

Thank you for caring and sharing.

FLASH- A  SAN DIEGO FIRE FUND ESTABLISHED
---------------------------------------------------------

John Peters, as Manager of our Charitable Foundation's Brotherhood Fund, has
established, UNDER OUR BROTHERHOOD FUND a "San Diego Fire Fund" to gather
donations for those USSVI Members who need assistance after the California
fires.

We have at least two USSVI Members who lost their homes and I suspect we may
find others.    Even if they had adequate fire insurance we may need to
provide help beyond that.

Donations should be made to "USSVCF" with the check comment line earmarked
for the Brotherhood fund.  They should be sent to USSVI, PO Box 3870,
Silverdale WA  98383.
